JULY 2024
WHAT DID HE SAY?

There is no doubt that Jesus is a master teacher. In this series, kids will explore Jesus’ imaginative stories called parables.

Each of His stories and parables instruct us about the kingdom of God, revealing truth about who He is and what He has for His followers. The more we read God’s Word, the more we will know Him. But what will we do with His words? Will we simply read them and forget them? Or will we allow them to take root in our lives and change us? Will we become wiser? Further, Jesus’ parables tell the depth of His love for each of us. His love helps us know how to show compassion to others in need.

FAMILY WONDER QUESTIONS

What is a parable? Which parable is most memorable for you. Why?

What do we learn about God through the stories of The Good Samaritan and The Lost Son?

Why do you think Jesus taught using stories?

FAMILY SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

Sacred Play: Building Houses. Reenact the story of The Wise and Foolish Builders using blocks or magnetic tiles. Build one house on a firm surface and one on sand or a soft surface. As you build, talk about the story and how you can be like the wise builder.

Reflective Reading: Read Luke 15:11–32, then share which person in the story you relate to most: the lost son or older brother. How is God like the father in the story? Read the passage again. Did you hear the story differently after sharing? Pray and thank God for welcoming us.

FAMILY WONDER QUESTIONS

A breath prayer is a word or phrase to repeat in a single breath with one part on the inhale and the other part on the exhale. Breath prayers help us focus on God and His presence with us. Try this together as a family.

Inhale: God welcomes me …
Exhale: no matter what.
