SERIES OVERVIEW

Taken from their homes and relocated to foreign places, God’s people find themselves in strange and unusual situations as exiles with different customs, languages, and ways of worship. Even in peculiar lands, God’s people are never alone.

He is always working behind the scenes. Sometimes He even shows up on the scene to speak to His messengers and give aid in perilous times. This series will explore how God works, calls, protects, and stays with His people. God’s promise to never leave His people rings true even for us today.

FAMILY WONDER QUESTIONS

1. Have you ever felt God speaking to you? Share about it. How does He speak to His people?

2. How has God helped you through something difficult?

3. How has God protected you?

FAMILY SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

Listening at the Throne: Invite the family to sit around an empty chair
and imagine it is the throne of God, as Isaiah saw in His vision. Listen
as one person reads aloud another message God gave to Isaiah in
Isaiah 9:2–3, 6–7. Then thank God together for how He has worked in
your lives and worship Him.

Light a Candle: Choose an adult to light a candle (keep it out of reach
of young kids). As you look at the fire, remember the story of God
protecting the three men in the fiery furnace. Read Daniel 3:16–18
and talk about ways God has protected you. Pray together and thank
Him for His protection and help during difficult situations.

FAMILY ACTIVITY

A breath prayer is a word or phrase to repeat in a single breath with one part on the inhale and the other part on the exhale.

Breath prayers help us focus on God and His presence with us. Try this together as a family.

Inhale: God … Exhale: You’ll never leave me.
